JW Harris of May, TX earned his second consecutive world championship in bull riding a night early. He can’t be caught having come into tonight facing only two other men with an outside chance to overtake the staggering lead JW had entering the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Both challengers bucked off early. Kanin Asay of Powell was one of those riders and although Kanin went down tonight he is in great shape for a big average check. He is second and Bobby Welsh of Gillette is first in the average. Bobby was scored 83 tonight on a bull named Crazy Train.
Clayton Savage of Casper put $10,000 in his jeans tonight finishing third with a score of 86.5 on Foolish Pride. That same animal horned the pants of Meeteetse, WY bullfighter Dusty Tuckness in an earlier NFR round. Savage is sixth in the average race and has taken the tape off his rib injury. He has cracks in a couple of them but seems none the worse for wear. Ah, to be young and seemingly invincible.
Veteran bull rider Cody Hancock of Arizona was knocked out at the end of his winning ride. He was taken out of the arena on a stretcher and is receiving hospital treatment for a concussion. He was awake when rolled past us and I can tell you he wanted to stay for his victory lap.
